Landing back home after 6 months on the road: Here’s what I learned!
Living out of a suitcase showed me what I truly value, and it’s probably not what you think.

Dear Reader,
After six months of travelling, I’m back in my London flat: home. There’s something about turning your key in the door, dropping your suitcase for the last time, and breathing in that familiar air. It’s grounding. It’s anchoring. And it’s brought up a lot for me.
I thought I’d share five life lessons that came from living out of a suitcase and being on the move for half a year.
1. You really don’t need that much stuff. 🧳
You have no idea how many times I’ve done this in the last 6 months…

I left my flat in September with my luggage so overly full with so much stuff thinking that I need it all. However, with time my luggage grew less and less. I left with over 23kg bag and 10kg carry-on and ended my trip travelling to Finland this March with a carry-on only.
I realized I wore the same clothes for months, and guess what? I was totally fine. In fact, it made me realise how much we rely on our “favourites.” The rest? It just takes up space. I’m now itching to declutter my home and closet. (More on that soon—I’ve got a little spring cleaning invitation coming your way!)
2. Home is a nervous system anchor.🪴
Travel is exciting and expansive. But nothing grounds you like having a safe place to return to. Your own bed. A cup of coffee in your own mug. A familiar street to walk down. We need a home base to come back to—physically and emotionally to us to remain grounded.
3. Safety is everything. 🛡️
Travelling as a solo woman in new environments brought so much awareness to how safety isn’t guaranteed. You don’t appreciate the quiet, everyday security of your own city until it’s gone. The constant need to stay alert can wear on your nervous system. Being home now, I’ve felt my body settling back into safety. Safety is everything and we must never compromise that. When we feel safe, our nervous system feels the best, too, and everything rises from there.
4. Without rhythm, it’s hard to flow. 🎵
When you’re constantly on the move, routines can dissolve. That’s not always a bad thing, it can be freeing! But long-term, routine is what helps us thrive. Now that I’m home, I’m feeling called to rebuild those nourishing daily rhythms that keep me steady and focused.
5. Movement is magic, but rootedness grows community. 🌱
One of the hardest parts of travelling is the goodbyes. You meet incredible people and then it’s time to move on. Being planted in one place allows you to build deeper connections and to show up consistently. I’m so grateful to come back to a community of people that feels like home.
My bags are unpacked, but I’m still unpacking emotionally and spiritually. But I’m also feeling inspired, clear, and more connected to what truly matters.
If you’re feeling like it’s your time to reconnect, realign, or reset, spring is the season to do it. I’ve got two coaching spaces open for April, and I’d love to walk with you as you plant the seeds for your next season.
Let’s chat.
With heart,
Essi
