Measuring success differently: it's not about numbers but about impact

We all get disheartened by rejection, low turnout or low number of likes. Numbers are everywhere, but what if success isn't about how many, but how you made them feel?

My dear reader,

I struggle when things I plan don’t happen.

Our first Men's Walk & Talk Club had to be cancelled due to low attendance (it's now rescheduled for 12th July), and numbers are looking low for this Sunday’s Connected Circle, and if they don’t go up by Friday, I might have to cancel that, too.

I hear the critical part speaking: Is this worthwhile? Does anyone care? Why are the numbers so low?

I don’t feel sense of success cause numbers are low. We got numbers everywhere from likes on social media to attendance numbers.

So, I asked myself: how could I reframe this?

What if success was measure by how I made the ones present feel, and don’t even care about the numbers?

What if success was measured that I had fun, enjoyed every second, and poured my heart into it?

Here’s what I’m learning:

Starting anything new is hard.
Disappointments are part of the deal.

Disappointment isn’t failure. It’s a messenger.

It shows up when our hopes bump into reality. And while that sting is real, it’s also an invitation: to build resilience, to get clear on what matters, and to keep going.

The numbers won’t be big at first—no one starts with a crowd.

We forget that those with "big numbers" also began small.
And truthfully? It’s not about numbers anyway.

One of my dear friends said something that stayed with me when I felt a bit discouraged about the low sign-ups:

“Small is good. Small means more intimacy, which hopefully leads to bolder conversations.”

He’s right. That’s what this community is about.
Small, heartful spaces where we get real.

Where we speak truth with vulnerability and courage.

Where we meet ourselves in one another and being present with ourselves.

Every time I see that spark in someone’s eyes after a walk or circle, I remember this is why it’s worthwhile.

That light—that spark of connection—is why I do this.

It doesn’t matter if it is just one or two people that came, when they leave with that light, that is success.

So, next month we try again on July 12th to do the men’s walk and talk club. Spread the word and help us make it happen this time!

We're making space to which hasn’t existed yet. Vulnerable yet fun space for men, too, to walk and talk and get that spark of meaningful connection!

I knew it wasn't going to be easy, and even though the walk didn’t happen this month doesn’t happen it won’t happen next.

THE THING IS…

In Samuel Beckett’s words, we need to “try again. fail again. fail better.”

We need to try again and consistently show up despite numbers. 

That’s why reframing success to impact is a game changer.

So, for me it is the spark of connection they get.
