What's your word for 2025? Let's pick it together.
Instead of resolutions, let’s choose one word to guide the year ahead. A single word can shape your entire year. Here’s how to pick yours and live with intention.
What if we approached January differently—more intentionally, with less urgency and softer and gentler?
When I lived in LA back in 2018, I discovered the One Word Method—a simple yet profound practice of choosing one word to guide your year. Just one focal point. One intention. A North Star for the months ahead. I want to share this practice with you today because it has been truly transformative for me.
Last year, my word was EXPRESSION. I wrote about how my year unfolded here—take a look if you're curious about how a single word can shape an entire year.
This year, my word is ALLOWING.
This word holds deep meaning for me. It first came to me months ago, through different experiences, signs, and whispers. It lingered, gently asking for my attention. I wrote about this back in my November 26 letter, and now it feels right to let it be my companion for 2025.
The magic of choosing one word is how it evolves with you. Already, allowing has taken new shapes. Right now, it’s about giving myself more time—time to sit, time to be. Bali has brought me closer to God and to myself, and I’m allowing this transformative season to unfold naturally.
Yesterday, I sat staring at the jungle view, laptop open, unable to work. Hustle mode doesn’t feel aligned right now. I need to honor this space of transformation. Bali has changed me, and I know that whoever boards that flight back to London on January 30th won’t be the same person who arrived here.
Births—whether of a new self, a dream, or a season—can’t be rushed. Just as it takes nine months for a baby to grow, this rebirth of mine needs time. It’s a process of allowing.
How to Choose Your One Word
Here are some journaling prompts to help you uncover your word for the year:
Is there a word that’s been visiting you? Maybe you’ve seen it repeatedly in your surroundings, conversations, or online.
Are there words you’ve been using more often in your own language lately? Write them down.
If you could describe your ideal year in one word, what would it be?
What does your heart truly need to feel connected and fulfilled this year?
What do you want more of? Examples: consistency, clarity, love, abundance, travel, ease, peace, happiness, courage.
Once You’ve Chosen Your Word
Take a few small, intentional actions to ground your word:
Define It: Google the definition of your word, then journal about what it means to you right now. Be open to how this meaning may evolve.
Pause and Breathe: Close your eyes and take three deep breaths, reconnecting with your body.
Visualize It: Imagine how embodying your word will shape your daily life. Journal this vision—what does living in alignment with your word look and feel like?
